I have just aquired a Radeon 9600se 128MB graphics card, but it does not fit my motherboard, the PCI slots do not align ( i thought they were all standard, silly me). So i guess now I will have to invest in a new mother board but dont know what type to get (either new or second hand) My computer is a emachines 370, windows XP home, service pack 2 build, processor is x86 family 15 model 1 stepping 3 genuineintel 1794 Mhz, can I buy any motherboard and use my processor, or do I have to buy a motherboard and a new processor, and what type of motherboard will I need. If anybody can give me a little direction, I will be a very greatful, thank you in advance. John.

You favour AMD or Intel?

I'm not sure whether I'd consider an upgrade just to be able to use a 9600SE graphics card. It's not exactly the cutting edge when it comes to video cards at this time.

AMD or Intel, im not fussed really.
So would it be better to sell the graphics card and buy one that fits my motherboard ( I`m not really bothered that much about it being cutting edge, its just an improvement on the built in one I already have.

Sorry to be blunt, but you won't 'improve' an e-machine unless you replace it with something new. ;)

Save your money for a new system. :thumb:

guess i still dont have an answer to my original question, which mother board am i looking for, do i just go and buy the first one i come to, or what, will my exsisting cpu fit it???? will it fit my console???? help

what i think you need is a socket 478 motherboard with an AGP slot, after having a look on ebuyer it seems as though they are still available

This should do you, with all of the other bits and a new copy of XP you should be up and running
