I am in the market for a 19 or maybe a 21 inch Sony monitor
to go along with my new 9800 Pro. Any suggestions on which model?
I mostly play games> Thanks

I found the E540 to be an exceptional monitor at a reasonable price. It will
support resolutions up t0 2048x1536. The only thing better would be two
E540's in dual display mode.

I'm using the Lacie Electron 22 Blue III, manufactured by Mitsubishi, with
the ATI 9800 XT 256MB.

In a word... WOW!

The E540 is Sony's low end 21" model and as such its max resolution is
1920x1440. For 2048x1536 you have to go up to the G520/G520P or the F520
(ouch!!).

When using Microsoft Windows 2000, a resolution of 2048x1536 would make the
fonts and graphics for regular business applications to small, right? So
there must be a way to set the resolution of a game to 2048x1536 while the
game is active, then return to a resolution of 800x600 when returning to
regular applications, right? We do not use the system for games much, but
would like to know how gamers handle switching back and forth between
resolutions.

the way i do it is with a app called ultramon. its for setting up dual
monitors but you can use it to set up diferetn profiles for a single
monitor.
all you do is make a new profile and have it save a icon to desk top. make
diferent ones for what ever you want . one click and you can change it.

I have E540 and my wife has G520. They use same picture tube and were built
in same factory. The default E540 WinXP monitor .inf file has 2048x1536
resolution just like G520. They both look the same (great).

Most all Direct3D/OpenGL games can do that. Super high resolutions in 3D
games is the reason I got an ATI 9700 Pro.

Unfortunately, it looks like the E540 and G520P are fading from the
supply lines. Rebates and sale prices have vanished and the prices for
what's left is actually rising. I suspect in a few months something
new will be hitting the stores from Sony.

I love the websites that pretend they have them and then want to sell
you a two year old used one for only a few dollars more than list.

Odd, Sony never advertised that resolution:

What is the max refresh rate at 2048x1536? I'm sure it's not as high as the
G520...

It's called marketing or specsmanship. They charge a lot more for the G520
so do not want the E540 effecting sales of higher profit item.
It will only do 60 Hz at 2048x1536. The G520 did 75Hz.

I wonder why NEC-Mitsubishi does not allow for the same resolution on my
FE2111SB-BK; the specs are nearly identical to that of the E540 (horizonal
and vertical scanning frequencies, AG pitch, etc).

Go with a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070sb :)

Better than a sony, cheaper thana sony and 20 inches of gaming good
ness, does 1600 by 1200 in 100htz and high res of 2000 by 1500
somthing at 75htz :)

I just bought one and ITS BIG,HEAVY but the best also it s a flat
screen.

And the grile lines of the DiamondTron tube aint that bad on a white
screen you can see them but they fade out when your typeing and onl;y
noticable when you look at them, in a game NOT THEIR :)

Well this is my vote, its about a grand cheaper than a Sony and the
sonys have a prob at high ress with rolling and their grill lines are
HEAVY.

Bye.
