with a Pentium 4 2.0 GHz can I use PC-2100 memory from my old soltek
board on a new P4S8X-MX
web page manual only speaks of DDR400
I would really hate to haveto buy another soltek board to use my cpu
and memory
http://www.sis.com/products/sis661gx_features.htm
"Supports Intel Pentium 4 Hyper-Threading processor FSB 533MHZ"
"DDR400/DDR333/DDR266 Support"
"Quasi-Synchronous/Asynchronous Host/DRAM Timing support"
From the manual:
"The motherboard runs at FSB800 when in overclock mode.
1. When using an FSB800 CPU with 400 MHz DDR memory, the
motherboard runs at 333 MHz by default.
2. When using an FSB533 CPU with 400 MHz DDR memory, the
motherboard runs at 400 MHz."
From the Asus spec web page for the board:
- support DDR400/333 with FSB533
- support DDR333 with FSB800
And yet the user manual shows:
DRAM Frequency [266 MHz, 333 MHz, 400 MHz, Auto]
implying the frequency is under user control.
I would suggest phoning Asus Tech support and getting
confirmation. I think the Asus info above, is specifying
the maximum rate the hardware runs at - so PC2100 should
still work. But get Asus Tech support to check it for you.
Since 2GHz processors are only available at FSB400, I do
not expect you will have a problem. Your question is only
a concern if you have a FSB533 or FSB800 processor. I
checked the cpusupport web page, and FSB400/533/800 are
all supported.
