Which of the following is the best solution?

* McAfee Home Edition (I know it is not free but my ISP provides this
"free of cost" as long as I am a customer with them.)
* Avast Home Edition
* AVG Home Edition

AVG if you are looking for a free AV. Simple and uncomplicated. If you
are prepared to pay, then the best is Kaspersky Antivirus (KAV).

McAfee can be a nightmare and uses much in the way of machine resources.

Go do your own research to see what is best for YOU. We are not you.
Get VMware Server (free) and trial each inside a virtual machine.

McAfee has better detection rates than Avast or AVG but can be quite
onerous on your system. A better choice than any of those would be
Avira Free version I believe.
