Hi,

Can anybody answer my question? Direct cable connection or LAN on T1 line,
which one is faster?

I need to copy files from one computer to another, both are on my desk and
connected to LAN. Sometimes LAN is slow and I wonder if direct cable
connection may be helpful.

Thanks a lot.

Don't know what you mean by LAN on T1 line, but a Lan connection should be
much faster than Direct Cable.

LAN is normally 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps, usually limited by the computer hard disk
speed.

Direct cable depends on the connection:

Ethernet (null modem cable) can still be 10 or 100 Mbps

RS-232 serial (null modem) is generally limited to 115 Kbps

USB 1.1 is about 12 Mbps

USB 2 or Firewire is 400-450 Mbps

All are theoretical maxima. Local conditions and speeds vary.

Good point - I forgot about Firewire.
