I have two Intel d865perl motherboards running linux 2.4.x and they are
very stable. I'd like to build two more stable i865pe systems, but it
appears that the d865perl motherboards are sold-out. The following
three i865pe boards are still available and I would appreciate hearing
from actual users which board they believe is the most stable and what
problems they've had, including but not limited to os support for the
lan and audio chipsets:

asus P4800SE
asus P4800E deluxe
gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G (rev. 4.x)

I will be setting up each PC for dual boot with linux 2.4.x as the
primary os. Win98se will also be loaded on one PC and WinXP-Pro will be
loaded on the other to run legacy applications. I plan on using a
2.8Ghz celeron D as the processor.

Thank you in advance for your advice,

Go to www.pricewatch.com and type "d865perl" in the search box.
You can still find them.

Using the Gigabyte, but Pro G version instead, and 2.4 GHz Prescott Pentium,
1 GB RAM. No Linux here. XP SP2/ME/98SE all work fine. ME and 98SE has
512MB memory limitation workaround.

Package did include the SATA power connectors, and PC rear connector for
firewire. Am using PATA drives, not using onboard LAN.

FYI,

I chose the asus P4800SE, given that the on-board sound/network is
supported in the linux kernel. No troubles so far with 2.4.x kernel.
WinXP Pro/SP2 install went ok. Upgrading Win98se on an existing hard
disk to work with the motherboard was very painful (lots of reboots).
