Can anyone recommend a heatsink/fan for an intel 6600 quad core processor socket LGA 775

Any of the 775 suitable Thermalrights, which one depends rather on what level of overclock (if any) you aspire to.

If not overclocking the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro should be adequate though my only experience of that is with a dual, not a quad.

vaios right on the button, but I would add that if your not overclocking then you might as well use the stock intel one - its copper based and not at all bad apart from being noisier than some.

All I'll say is that this Noctua NH-U12P cooler is absolutely the bestest and quietest I've ever used.

I added an extra 120mm Noctua fan and I can still barely hear it.

It is a tad on the pricey side though at £42.29

Yes I knew you would turn up trumps Flopp's..:thumb:

I remember you talking about this heatsink/fan in another thread and for the life of me couldn't remember the name of it, just that it was unbelievably quiet and had given you very good service, must admit it is expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for..

I'm sure you have a Zalman aswell don't ya, whats that like Flopp's if ya don't mind me asking squire..

One point, before making a decision make sure your choice has good board clearance.....don't want fouling of ram slots or chipset etc.

On my main rig (the one in my sig) I have a Zalman CNPS9500 which I like, currently at 38C CPU temp on 100%.

But it's not as quiet as the Noctua.

vaio makes a good point, I can actually fill all the RAM slots in the system the Noctua's in, but I'd have to remove the cooler to do it as it gets in the way of access.

This is not to discourage looking at the Thermalright series btw, I've used their coolers in the past and they've been good. It's just that I have no experience of their current range.

But, peeps are recommending them all over the place so I guess they're good.

It's just that I seem to be the only one anywhere who uses a Noctua and they're really good so that's why I always like to shout about it ;)

Thank you Squire :D

Well, when I say everywhere I really only frequent two forums regularly, this being one of them, and pop in to two others occasionally.

And on those 4 forums I rarely see Noctuas mentioned.

I guess I should 'travel' more :)

IIRC correctly, isn't the Noctua the one you can use 2 x 120mm in a push-pull config?
I visit way too many forums but only really read the dc sections.

Correct.

I use the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme which comes 2nd in that review vaio links to in most of my Q6600 rigs and they are fantastic - pretty similar in design to the Noctua by the looks of it, except the TR has 12 heatpipes to the Noctuas' 8.

I use YS-Tech Fans with them due to the huge CFM they produce, but they aren't the quietest - but of course you can use any 120mm fan like the Noctua ones Flops use too.

Ady's Q6600 Build Thread

If your going to go for overclocks over 3.2 GHz and beyond then you won't find an aircooler better than that Thermalright.

Ady many thanks for your pics of your Q6600 build, great stuff..

Corsair PSU in there I see, I just recommended the Corsair HX 620 modular to my brother as his Hiper 580 just took the blowout route that everyone elses has taken here in the last 18 months..

The Cooler is for him aswell and he will be on later to cast his eye over the thread and thank all of you for your wisdom and pics..Its much appreciated..

Was only teasin' ya :p

I only used the 520W version because its purely a cruncher with no power hungry graphics card etc to cope with - the HX620 is an excellent choice for machines that need more power :thumb:

I say sir that's a rather sweeping statement isn't it?

I don't think I'd ever presume to say one product was the absolute best. Well, not without conclusive proof anyway.

I can't see me doing a new build for quite some time now and I'm happy with the four coolers I have but were I to need another 775 cooler I would definitely try one of those Thermalrights.

Ya see - open mind, no blind loyalty or any of that 'mine's best' attitude :p

If I think something's good though I will shout it from the rooftops.

Similarly if I think something's bad I will say so. And right now I'm saying Creative are bad.

Complete pile of poo poo when it comes to Vista anyway, very frustrating.

I'm just wondering who do I take a pop at here though? Creative or Microsoft?

Of course, that's another topic ;)

Probably - just went by the comparative testing reviews I've read I guess..........just seems that particular TR's is generally at or very near the top. If I see another doing better I'll probably try that next time, so no blind loyalty here either :thumb:

However one should always treat reviews with an element of caution and also take into account folks personal experiences as well
