Welcome to the site :)

What sort of stuff do you want to do with your graphics card, mainly high-end gaming?

Thanks for the welcome & also very fast reply!

I want the GFX for high-end gaming, DirectX 10 support and also vista ready. So its got to last me a while before I want to upgrade again.

can i add anouther choice?
i suggest getting a 8800 GT (or whatever they call it)... the slightly cheaper version of the GTX
Not only is it cheaper, its also faster then the 1900 XTX :)

Thank you for the alternative. I will keep that in mind. But money is not an issue in my case. I have £5000 to spend on a new machine but I am waiting till after Christmas time see if any other new hardware comes out.

Hey there xTreme,

If your looking for Vista compatible and high-end card then Nvidias 8 series (ie the 8800 in your poll choice) would be very ideal. Basically, exactly what Alf said is what i reccommend. You could even buy 2 of the cards in SLI if you really wanted power..

:D

You really dont need to spend 5K on a pc...

512MB Radeon X1950XTX, PCI Express + DVI + TV Out is the one to go for:D
Listen to the voice of a man who knows nothing about games, ATI are owned by AMD = good company:thumb:

The Nvidia 8800GTX is currently the best video card on the market for domestic computers.

If you've got £5K to spend on a single computer get two of them and run them in sli.

Even if you splash out on a huge monitor or projector for display, you gonna be hard pushed to spend £5K.

Tell you what, I'll suggest a system that will use up nearly all your money and for my somewhat spiffing advice you give me the loose change that's left over?

Sounds good eh? Should only be about 5 hundred quid left.....

flops...:D that would run the HUBBLE TELESCOPE on max settings :)

I am intending to use the GFX card with 2 monitors working at the same time. Both at maximum resolution posible. The monitors will be 20inch both. So I either need 2 GFX card or one that is compatible with multiple monitors?

One monitor will be used with multimedia. Like a media centre. Playing videos music etc. The other will be high end gaming. It's about time I splashed out on myself, this is the first real thing that I have bought for myself so it seems to be worth the money. This also coinsides with my career at the moment so it has to be high end for testing applications and other editing software.

If you got 2 8800GTX's and ran them in SLI, i think you can have 4 displays connected, plus a couple of TVs- as each card is Dual DVI...with TV Out i think.

Seriously - if you aere into games, 8800GTX is the best setup money can buy.

What motherboard, processor, psu etc you got?

OK. After considering what people have posted on here this is the system which I have chosen & bought. It should arrive on 25th January so I will let you all know how it goes.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core
RAM: 4Gb Corsair XMS2 800Mhz
MoBo: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
HDD: 3 x 750GB ATA II
DVD Drives: 2 x DVD Writers (lightscribe)
Monitors: 2 x 22" Widescreen
Power Supply / Cooling: 1000W 5 Rail inc Case fan and CPU Fan
GFX: 768MB GeForce 8800GTX
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro w/ external kit
Speakers: Creative Gigaworks G550W Ultimate THX 5.1

I have decided against SLIs at the moment as I really do not need it, not with this spec.

Thank-you for your time and help,
Best regards,
Rob

I bought it from http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk

I have heard a lot of good things about them and decided to give it a go. I bought all this for under £4000 so I think I landed myself quite a good deal.

Thanks, read the article about 3 minutes ago.. I think I will help you guys with crunching, I might aswell. Won't harm anybody. Least I can do for some good opinions.
