Hi

I'm going to buy a DVD-/+RW drive and was wondering if anybody could suggest
the bet drive or drives for around the £100 mark. I was seriously thinking
of the LG GSA4081B but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanx

Jim.

Didnt you want the DVD ram feature?

Ive only seen an LG and a Panasonic and that may even be a LG in
disguise for all I know since Im not sure Panasonic makes DVD burners.

If you dont want that feature - NEC and Liteon 8x burners are very
good and very cheap in the US and probably among the cheaper dfrives
in Europe too I imagine. THe NEC I keep hearing can burn almost any
media . Ive got the 4x version and it has been well supported with
lots of firmware updates and is a popular drive here and can burn
anything. The Liteon in general Ive heard very good things but a few
people say it still can be picky about cheap media but others dispute
this.

The more expensive drives - there is a cult around Pioneer that
proclaim it the best drive and its fallen in price so its not a whole
lot more than the NEC and Liteon but still enough to make me pick a
NEC if I was going to upgrade to 8x since Im not aware of any big
difference.

The other is Plextor which may be the most expenisve of ones I
mentioned.

Sony used to be the top name but I dont see them mentioned as much
anymore and their prices havent fallen as much around here. I think
they may have been the first dual format burner.

If I were buying one Id probably get the NEC or Pioneer.

I love my Pioneer - cost me £80. I used to have a Sony that developed a
fault (it wouldn't burn to -RWs) so I bought this to replace it. DVD-RAM
doesn't bother me, either - and, so far, it's burnt to everything I've
thrown at it. Bought it from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk - very silly prices for
media too.
