Hi
Going to buy a Pioneer 106 and want to know what will be the best DVD ROM
Drive to get at the same time to most compatible with regard copying on the
fly.
John
Well, the Pioneer 116 is a good DVD-ROM drive. Very quiet, and works
quite well. The slot loading version is very nice, but the tray
version will be more compatible with more unusual media (eg. business
card or mini-CDs)
As for copying on the fly, it's possible, but still not recommended.
The reason being that it can (and often does) trip the overburn
protection on writers, which will make the burn go slower than if you
had cached it to the hard drive.
If you insist on being able to do it, get a SCSI controller, and get
SCSI versions of all the drives involved (The reader & writer). It
will cost considerably more, however , and the cost is usually not
worth it for most people. Of course, that's for you to decide.
