I need to get a dictaphone for my singing lessons - I'm a classical singer (soprano) and would like to track my progress.

The problem is that I know NOTHING about them :o

Anyone got any suggestions? I would like to get a digital one, so that I can record lessons and keep the sound file on my computer for review, but other than that I'm open to suggestions!

Any help much appreciated :)

Hey, clever idea ... wonder what Quad would make of using one?

My mum had a fantastic voice, she actually had an invitation to join a opera group, but had six kids instead. :)

Creative Zen mp3 player has audio record facility through built in mic, or plug in external mic.

I-Pod offers same thing but only with expensive add-on.

'Dictaphone' conjures up images of 1960's beehived Carnaby Street secretaries typing away with a foot operated pause/play pedal.

Eek

If all you want to do is record your voice at a reasonable quality and interact with computer for those recordings, check out Creative's home page and the Zen mp3 players.

They're good.

Olympus dictaphones are the best in business. Some of the higher models have very good quality. Check out the models and come back, will help you with other bits. :D

Flops, the cassette tape if you remember was invented by Philips only for recording speech in those days but much later it was used for hifi purposes through Nakamichis, Tandbergs, Revox etc. In similar fashion dictaphones have come a long long way and they are very shophisticated devices with excellent quality.

I think the reason SB is thinking of one is not because she needs high fidility but more to check the basics of her own singing. With high quality storage medium of dictaphones of today the quality is not compromised, meaning no wow and flutter, tape getting stuck, poor archival quality etc etc.

I say Lady Bex is on right track :thumb:

Thanks for the advice, I shall go and have a look and come back! :D

Wow a thread with mod's, super mods & admin and little me;).
My Mum bought one recently from argos. Only cost £22 and the sound played back is good, but may be not as good for your needs. And i thought i-Pods only played music? (has this bit of technology passed me by:o )
