Which critical updates can be omitted if I'm behind a firewall?

It's been a few months since I last updated my system and there are an incredible 39 critical updates that are recommended. I've spent an hour reading through them and have winnowed it down to 21 updates, still a lot. It would be really helpful if MS would identify those that are necessary if one is connected directly to the Internet and those that are unnecessary if we have a firewall between the computer and the Internet.

I think "critical" should give you a pointer.

A firewall between you and the Internet is NOT a replacement for these
patches ... Argue that point until you're blue in the face, but if you
believe you do not need to install patches simply because you have a
firewall between you and the bad guys, you will eventually get burned ...
