Which Computer Case?

New Egg recently did a poll on your question and Antec received more than
50% of the votes among at least nine other case makers. I've used Enlight
mostly and found them very durable, well made, easy to work within and
visually unobtrusive.

Lian Li's cases are high quality and have a good appearance. But,
good looks are often in the eye of the beholder. The more expensive
cases usually don't come with a power supply. I think the ThermalTake
cases are down-right ugly, but popular. I like the plain-Jane stuff.

Has anyone worked with these cases?

Cooler Master: Wave Master(TAC-T01-EK)

First decide if you want a steel or aluminium case - if steel I would
suggest Antec, if aluminium, CoolerMaster. For a good selection of
cases you may want to have a look at http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/ - not
the cheapest but very good, reliable service.

kingwin kt-424. i think it's a better case than the lian li or coolermaster
and it's cheaper.

Lian Li aluminium cases have always had a good press.

Thermaltake cases are highly over rated. Both Cooler Master and Lian Li make
very high quality cases which are easy to work with. Get a good quality
Antec or PC Power & Cooling supply to go with your new case.

Aluminum does not provide magnetic field shielding the way steel does. So
don't plan on having a radio next to your work area if you use an Al case.

Also, I really dislike the cheap card mounting scheme used in some cases.
I'm refering to the ones that have a single bar that catches the tops of all
cards instead of a screw to hold each card individually.

I don't see any value in more than 2 full-size 5 1/4" bays. All you need
is one DVD or CD RW drive. Two makes copying easy but is not necessary.

There is probably no use for a 3 1/2" drive bay, let alone two. Floppies
are totally out and so is using Zip drives to move files around now that we
have the Flash Drives.

The coolest looking cases around have been from either Lian Li or
Coolermaster. They are high end.

Personally, I like Antec's cases. You basically get a Chiefmaster Dragon
case with and very high quality power supply for little more than
purchasing one or the other seperately.

I really wish you wouldn't have posted that link to that Wave case. Everytime I
see a new case that I like I end up building another computer. :)

Anyway, I just built a system using the Antec SuperLanboy and I really like this
case. Very lightweight, super quiet and cool and a joy to work on.

But, I like this one a lot better.............the new Antec Performance 1, with
or without the window.

I am seeing more of that sideways hard drive arraignment in those two
cases - what end of the drive goes where?

I still have my ancient Antec1080SX battleship case - one of my
favorite features is the one touch drive cage release, no taking off
two panels or undoing (and dropping!!) screws inside the box when
doing disk diddling.

High quality= Lian Li, High price = Lian Li. I also like Cool
Master.

really fancy, just great quality.

It's up to you which way around you fit the drives but I have fitted the
drives on my Sonata with the connections innermost - neater and better
for airflow.

The nice part about those side mounted hard drive rigs is that you can mount the
hard drives either way. In my Sonata I used flat cables and mounted the drives
with the pins to the mobo side. This really improves the airflow in that case.
In the SupeLanboy I used Antec Cobra cables and mounted the drives with the pins
to the clear panel side.

The Cobras are very flexible, for a round cable, and this works rather well but
I still may experiment by moving them to the mobo side for better airflow. The
downside of this is that, in the Sonata, when removing the drives you needed a
third hand because you almost have to slide both drives out at once to remove or
fasten the cables and power plugs. In the SL the mobo side panel can be removed
for better access so that wouldn't be a problem.

BTW, I also have two Chieftecs and they have the removable drive cages like the
Antec 1080. These are nice but they can be a pita if your video card is a
little long and you are using round cables.

Another real plus for the SLB is the layout of the case. If you believe the
dynamics of airflow in a case should be an intake at the lower front moving air
to an outake at the upper rear then this case is a dream come true. Because of
the close proximity of the rear 120 fan and the fan on my Antec TB 480 ps the
air flows right over the northbridge and the cpu.

Here is a link to some pics of the SLB build. If you look around you will also
find pics of the Sonata.

Just wanted to put this out there why are there doors on the cd drives so
popular, I put alot of music and disks in my pc isnt a door a hassell!

It IS a hassle! Advantages are ...
cover a bezel of a different color,
keep dust out,
prevent the insertion of a P&J sandwich by the toddler,
clean appearance.
