I've just bought a Lite-on ltr-401255.
I've heard that some brands of cd dosen't work well on certain drives.
Has anyone any experience with the drive type that I own ? and know what
works
and what does not ?
thanks.

I've got that drive. I've used Verbatim, Imation, IBM, Sony, and Staples
brand (made by IBM) successfully. Maxell I've had some problems with.

I would say 99% of my coasters are due to the 'burning' software (buffer
underruns)
and independant of the media manufacturer, so cheapest is best.

Drives *should* be media independant., if yours isn't I would return it.

I've not used the Lite-On 401255, though I do have the LTR-52327S. It has
worked well with Maxell, Fuji(TY), Verbatim, and TDK(Mitsubishi) CD-R media.
Stay clear of cheap generic media and you should be fine. Buy a small
quantity to test for compatibility.

Most compatibility problems are not with the CDRW, but with old CDROM drives and audio CD players. I have had good results with TDK, recommended by LiteOn and available inexpensively at local stores.

If my cdrom player would not play a particularly brand of CD I
would *definitely* be sueing, one or the other of the manufactures
and I as sure I would *definitely* win. UNLESS there was a clear
warning of the problem. ie
THIS CD PLAYER WILL ONLY PLAY TDK CDROMS.
========================================

ie it is a TDKCDROM player not a CDROM player.
