Which card for my CPU

2.2ghz Athlon XP (2500 barton oc)
400 fsb
3200 dual channel ram

What is the best AGP card i can expect to compliment this CPU? How high can
i go before the CPU is a severe bottleneck for the card?
 
I would like the card to have enough vram to handle BF2, Doom3, FEAR and
such with their crazy amount of detailed textures. my system has a gig

As I understand it, you'll need a pretty hefty system to be able to fully
enjoy Battlefield 2 and F.E.A.R.

If I were you, I'd just go for the fastest AGP card available - IIRC, an ATi
Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition.

It has 256mb of RAM and that's enough. 512mb is still overkill for a
videocard.

But then he would be severely bottlenecked so he would just be wasting
money.I'd suggest either the Radeon X800XL or the new R520XL when it
comes out in AGP (and suggesting by some new ATI reports it will :) )-
 
Mike,just as long your cpu can run a game your system will not be
bottlenecked when adding a fast videocard.
You can go several ways with a game,not enough ram,cpu not fast
enough,videocard not fast enough etc.
I would not advice to buy an expensive agp videocard since pcie is the way
to go atm.
So try to find a middle road to be able to play bf2 at decent framerates
with acceptable graphic settings :)

In any case,nowadays games rely more on graphics power then cpu power,so you
could buy a x850xt,only to find after you also want a faster cpu to make it
smoother,then you also want the fast low latency memory etc.
Upgrading a computer is just a deathtrap,you'll end up upgrading all the
time just to run a game.
 
Get a X800XL and new cooling for your cpu

I have a amd 2800xp oc to 3000xp and the X800XL, BF2 runs really goo
at 1024 with everything on
How much memory do you have
I have 1 gig at 333mhz

The X850 is a bit overkill for your cpu
Agp is on the ropes now so i wouldnt spend that much money on a ag
card

The X800GT might be worth looking in to

The X800XL oc easily by another 20-30mhz on processor and memory
