Use pigmented inks? I'm seriously thinking about purchasing a second printer
to use for times when waterproofing is necessary. I refuse to use Epson
mainly because of the chipped carts but also because they can't be refilled
(easily) or recycled - not to mention the clogging! I cannot seem to find
the relevant info on Canon's site.

Thanks

AFAIK, Canon is strictly dye. BUT, the 3rd party vendors will soon
have ink sets for the more popular Canons. Watch---e.g.---

Inexpensive resetters are available
but also because they can't be refilled

I am refilling---not that hard. (Not trivail either)
or recycled - not to mention the clogging!

Can be avoided and can be repaired.
I cannot seem to find
the relevant info on Canon's site.

Thanks

When i bought my Canon i550, original black ink was waterproof, while colors
weren't. Now i refill and even blaskisn't wterproof anymore. But i don't
care too much, if you do, you'd have t buy original black, or ask for such
ink before buy a refill. Otherwise, refilling of Canon is done in less than
one minute. And clogging never happened (yet). Sometimes i don't print for a
week or more and in 8 months i never even run head clean process yet. But
these printers do have a long start - when you hit print, it usually takes
half a minute or more to start printing - since it does self-head cleaning,
especially if you don't print for longer period. I guess that's why i dodn't
have to run cleaning by myself yet.
But this delay is only at first print at power on, then it's quicker.

You've missed the point - it's probably only going to be used 2 or three
times a month at most. I am not wasting cartridges attempting to unclog it!
That's why I'm looking for non-clogging alternatives. I know about
resetters, that's why I don't want to have to use one!

When I refill my Epson carts---resetting the chip is the easiest
step---about 20 seconds on averageIt appears that you may just have to wait until Canon releases a
pigment-based printer. I think places like MIS may eventually sell
their pigment inks in compatible carts---but when?

They (according to the web site) are beta-testing right now.
