Hello,

I have been advised to buy a Canon Mutifunctional Machine to Scan
Print Copy Print

the MP110 still available to buy but no Fax facility.

The Canon Smartbase MPC 600 F is a great machine but its been deleted
its got everything.

I was reading reviews it said that the cost of toner for Canon is
expensive.

I really don't know what to do any suggestions

UNLESS YOU HAVE A SEVERE SPACE REQUIREMENT YOU HAVE BEEN WRONGLY
ADVICED. IF ONE OF THE FUNCTIONS GOES BAD YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE
ENTIRE MACHINE. IF THERE ARE ADVANCEMENTS THAT YOU DESIRE FOR ONE OF
THE FUNCTIONS YOU CANNOT UPGRADE THAT FUNCTION.

IT IS BEST AND NOT MORE EXPENSIVE TO BUY THE BEST OF BREED SCANNER YOU
WANT AND THE BEST OF BREED PRINTER YOU WANT.

Sandra,
Why would you even consider inkjet to start with? Get an HP all in one with
toner.
Now sure what the latest model is. The last one I recall was the Laserjet
3200.
Inkjets are sold at a low price so you will waste your money buying
cartridges.

I was reading reviews it said that the cost of toner for Canon is
expensive.

This is true. I was crunching the numbers and oddly enough their
inkjets are cheaper per page in some cases. For example the MF5750
takes I believe the x25 toner cartridge at $73 to $90 per 2500 pages.
That's between 2.8 cents and 3.6 cents/page. I could be wrong on the
toner, i'm not getting an exact match.

Unfortunatly the only inkjet multi fuction with FAX is the mp780
which... while being pleased with the non-fax model mp760, I have to
say lacks some key features desired in an all in one fax unit such as
recieve to PC. Fax support in this model is very rudimentary. The
black on this costs typicaly $12.50 per 500pages or 2.5cents/page .
This is a current model though there are newer canon all in ones with
higher resolution, just none that have fax on board. The text qualty
is among the more spiffy features, photo quality is pretty dang decent.
You could spend more for a laser which would offer even, but if you
must go inkjet this is among the most reasonable for B&W.

The mp110 is actually an older model taking the bci-24 cartridges, one
thimble sized black and one thimble sized tri-color. We're talking
tiny yields and higher cost per page. The current model the 130 takes
even more spendy cartridges of the type with the head onboard, but at
the very least you get higher yields. But no fax.

But to be fair... While I admire aspects of canon and in fact own two
of them.... anyone considering FAX should look at HP models.

Also... look at the option of using your existing FAX modem. They are
handy and your options for printers are not so limited. If your faxing
digital documents this is the way to go as this is supported by windows
out of the box. If you want to receive fax well... the cheapest route
is to buy a fax modem with software... even if you have one we're
talking sub $20. If your faxing paper then consider a multi-fuction
machine with fax.

INKJETS ARE SOLD AT LOWER PRICES AND THEY MAKE UP BY CHARGING MORE FOR
INK. HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT TO PRINT PHOTOS INKJETS PRODUCE MUCH HIGHER
QUALITY THAN LASER PRINTERS.
