I've nearly got enough to get meself the processor for my new computer. I am not looking for dual core as that won't give me any real advantage in applications (except if i want to run a virus check) for a few years yet, but will cost twice as much.

Was just wondering if you'd give me your opinions on which is best value for money. I will be using it for mostly gaming (and alot of it), massive downloads, small amounts of video encoding etc, so fairly intensive stuff. I would rather not spend £235 though :P...

The choices are:

3500+ - £164.44 - 2.2ghz, 512kb cache

3700+ - £199.69 - 2.2ghz, 1mb cache

3800+ - £234.74 - 2.4ghz, 512kb cache

I cannot go higher than that

Cheers Guys

ps all prices were from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_cpus.html

if you double the cache it is supposed to be worth 200Mhz in speed, you probably wouldn't notice much difference in most programs accept maybe encoding

Got to recommend the big daddy of the bunch - Athlon 4800.

It runs like a dream, and fast as hell (but there again, so it should)

Not sure it's worth the retail price, but it came as a pre-build with XP64 and boy is it fast! Even running it with XP32 it knocks the hell off my old piece of garbage (Intel 1.7G)

lol - you want to lend me £700 then? :D
Fair comment, thats why I took it as part of the pre-build. There is no way on god's earth it is actually worth that amount of money.

I will let you know when they are down to a reasonable price, probably in about 2 weeks, which will be about 1 week before it becomes obsolete if current trends are anything to do by! (lol)
