I would like to buy a "laser-based" all-in-one for my home office.
The minimum requirement is to do FAX and Copy (I have a HP 2100 laser
printer.).
I wish to have a recommendation from experienced users.
Secondly, I saw many all-in-one in Costco. They are all color all-in-one.
I wonder whether laser color machine is worth buying one. Satoshi

The one observation I'd make is just to make sure you understand the per page
costs up front. HP and Lexmark sell nice, cheap units now, but they charge
killer prices for the ink to make it up. You may be further ahead to pay
more for the machine and less per copy -- or not. It will depend on how
heavily you intend to use the machine.

Good luck....

Thank your for the nice comment.

Do you have any recommendation on a cost effective unit in your mind?

I have no strong feelings or deep insights. When I looked into this a few
months ago my laser had just died and I intended heavy use. I found that one
friend had bought a Canon F50 which he's been happy with and which was about
the cheapest per page cost of any at that time. I don't think they still
sell this particular unit though. You might find one of the other Canon's
are cheap to run though. In my particular case I decided to just live with
my somewhat crippled ink jet until it dies a little more.

If you're going to be primarily using your laser printer, and only averaging
a couple pages a day from the multifunction machine you may be further ahead
to buy the cheap HP and plan on spending more for ink as you go.

As I recall, the Office Depot web site (?) where they sell ink would also
tell you about how many pages you get from the cartridge so you can roughly
calculate your per page costs for a large number of different printers.

Good luck...

Since you want a laser based unit ink costs are rather irrelavent. You might
take a look at the Laserjet 3330mfp at the following:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF02a/18972-238444-236260.html The
typical cost is listed as 2.4 cents/page.

If you need color and will be doing upper hundreds to thousands of pages per
month the Officejet 7110 (listed on the same pag above) might be a fit for you.

I looked at LJ 3330mfp.
But it is for color. I do not know whether it is worth to have a color
laser because I am under the impression that color laser is poor performer
than ink jet printer.
So I would rather go for B&W system.

You can pickup a reconditioned HP G85 4 in 1 for about $150.00. This is a
work horse. I have printed over 20,000 copies and its still working great. I
just let the boy scouts print 4000 flyers on it. Not one problem but a
little slow. Pete
