Right I am very close to having all the componants for me build, and I am wondering if you guys would help me choose which gfx card. Their are a few stores i have used so far, and overclockers seems the best for graphics card prices, so here we go.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7800__Series.html

I am no spending over £250, and will only spend that much if there is a considerable jump in performance, so more that 1 or 2 fps.

I have noticed the first Leadtek card is only £205, whic saves me £50 on all the other cards, however does not come with Call of Duty 2 which i really want :P

The OcUk card is the same clocks but also comes with CoD 2 free. But as this card is, for all intents and purposes unbranded, will there be any issues with reliability, warranties or the like?

Cheers for your help

That's wierd. I've never heard of 'unbranded' graphics cards before - at least certainly not with something as new and complex as a 7800. If I were you I would Email overclockers UK and ask them who actually made the card. But yeah, XFX all the way. You'll get higher clock speeds under a TWO year warranty, as well as a prettier card design and COD2 as well.

Edit: Maybe you should just wait for a 512mb card. At the moment, we are starting to see the first wave of titles that actually WANT (not just 'benefit' from) 512mb of RAM. I think buying a 256mb card now might form a situation a little like last year when people purchased x800's before Shadel Model 3 became standard - We are kind of on a 'cusp' at the moment.

I'm sure if you give it 3 months a 512mb option will be a good price. Granted, things always move fast anyway, but if you only buy one card every 2-3 years (like me) then you'll probably get considerably more bang-for-buck out of a 512mb card if you're willing to wait a little longer now.

the only problem i can see with the OCUK one is that the warranty is with them and we all know that returning stuff to them isn't the best, so personally i'd avoid it, all the others have warranty with the manufacturer going by that the BFG is the best

they all seem to be pretty much the same, XFX one looks good as does the Leadtek Extreme edition

XFX are still the "new kids" making a good name for themselves ... it would be one of my first choice next to Leadtek.

I've got a Leadtek 6800GT. I know its not the same, but mines been faultless and the cooler on it it brilliant. Mines running a big oc (see sig) and the temps are almost the same stock. :)

So my vote would be the Leadtek. :thumb:

I just had a quick look at the specs, cant see much of a difference between the other 7800GT's, other than the speeds. But i did only have a quick look.....

Thats my opinion. :)

CustomPC says the XFX 7800gt is the "Best high-end graphics card" available, and "one of the first to really break new ground". They also managed to overclock it safely from its (pre-overclocked) 450mhz/1.05ghz, to 502mhz/1.15ghz.

I'm not sure if OCUK have the correct image for it - it should be a big black/luminous green thing with a holographic sticker on it. Like this-

Hang on, you can save fifty quid buying the Leadtek card but it hasn't got Call Of Duty 2 with it.

CoD2 costs £30.00 in PC World and me mate tells me saw it for £20.00 in Game the other day.

Let me do some quick maths......

Yep, buy the Leadtek :D

Edit: Ok, it does only run at 400Mhz though, so.... hmm, your choice ;)

sorry i havnt replied, i havnt been on the pc for a few days

does anyone know of any plans of a reasonable price 512mb card waiting in the wings to sweep us off our feet? I dont like the idea of waiting months and months for a new card because i am looking to build the new system in January, so do you think that the extra performance of the XFX warrants £40?

Personally though i have always wanted an XFX card. Their boxes are so cool :D

oh and i meant a reference card not an unbranded card :P sorry.

i think we're going to be waiting a while for a cheap 512MB card, its taken long enough for 256MB to become common, if you really ant the XFX get it, it's up to you what you buy

It depends how frequently you plan on upgrading. If you're the kind of person that buys a good card every 12 months, then get the 7800gt. If, on the other hand, you're the kind of person that buys a single VERY good card less frequently, then maybe wait for a 512mb card. They won't be any cheaper by January, but then again you'll have 4 weeks to save that extra £100.

But yeah, definately get the XFX if you do.
