I am working on a notebook with XP home installed.
The "Copy to CD" button does not appear...only the "Copy
to Folder".
Sonya, MS PowerPoint MVP Team, told me yesterday that it
should work in XP. What's wrong???

I don't have a clue, then.

Can't find anything in the MSKB, either. Sorry.

Did you try putting a blank CD-R or CD-RW in the CD drive?

Do you have a CD burner on the notebook computer? Is it in the bay?

Since I don't have a button to the CD do I send the folder
to the CD burner drive?

That did not work either. I tried reinstalling. Still no
luck. I think I bought a bad disc. How do I get a
replacement? If I get written ok from MS, I will send this
CD to you.

I'm a bit confused. XP Home is your OS, Do you have Office XP installed?

What didn't work, TK? "Didn't work" covers a lot of ground. Exactly what
happens when you burn the contents of the "copy to folder" folder to the
CD?

Do you think you bought a bad Office installation CD? I would imagine
that if everything else is working okay, your CDs are fine.

At any rate, it may be time for you to call MS Product Support. They can
try to troubleshoot your problem, and they can also probably tell you if
your installation CD is faulty or not.

You don't need to send the CD to me, though -- I won't be able to do
anything with it. :-)

I can't afford to keep upgrading stuff I don't use.
Powerpoint is my primary MS tool. I design in Adobe or
Corel and create JPEGS which I build into slides in
PowerPoint. I upgraded PowerPoint strictly because it
touted "Package for CD" But it doesnt work on my notebook
which came with XP Home. There are no warnings on the disc
or package that say a word about needing all this other
stuff! Looks like a case for the Fedweeral Trade
Commission and my local State Atty General to me.

TK, we still seem to have our wires crossed.

As I said, XP Home is the Operating Sytem and has nothing to do with Office
or PowerPoint. Did you buy a copy of Office?

I purchased PowerPoint 2003 upgrade, since that is all of
Office I ever use. My Office program continues to be "97.
I do all my "office" work in Word Perfect programs.

Why must I spend several hundred dollars for functions I
never use?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello TK,

The "Package for CD" feature of PowerPoint 2003 relies on a Windows XP
technology called IMAPI. If IMAPI is not working right this might explain
why you don't have the option to "Copy to CD" in the Package for CD dialog.
In order to determine whether IMAPI is working correctly do the following:

1) In "Windows Explorer" open your "My Pictures" directory
2) Select a picture
3) Choose "Copy to CD" from the list of "File and Folder Tasks" in the task
pane on the left side of the Windows Explorer window and specify your
recordable drive.
4) In Windows Explorer" open your "My Computer" window and open up the CD
recordable drive icon.
5) Choose "Write these files to CD" from the list of "CD Writing Tasks" in
the task pane on the left side of the Windows Explorer window and follow
the instructions in the wizard that comes up.

If you are unable to complete all of these steps successfully then
something is wrong with IMAPI on your system (you will need to troubleshoot
Windows to get it working before it can be used from within PowerPoint's
Package for CD feature).
