Hello,
I have a home network that consists of a server (Win2K), a workstation
(currently Win2K going to be XP), a laptop (XP) that I use at work (so
the domain needs to be kept as my work domain), and a Linksys wireless
router.
I am connected through a DSL modem using PPPoE with an assigned IP
address, although the address is always the same. I have my own
domain, which uses a free DNS service for the root domain servers (I
hope that makes sense).
The server has DNS, DHCP, and is a Domain Controller.
I used to have the DSL modem connected to the router, which had built
in PPPoE and from there I connected all of my machines. All of them
could reach the internet, but they had difficulty connecting to one
another. I read that the "standard" way to set this up is to have the
WAN connected to the server and that then connects to the router and
from there the remaining machines are connected.
Does anyone know where I can find instructions or a white paper that
would cover this kind of setup? One of the current problems that I'm
facing is that I'm not sure how the server setup should be since it
has a network card for the WAN, another for the LAN, but then it also
has a network connection for the WinPoet (PPPoE) protocol.
Any pointers to useful websites, books, whitepapers, etc. are most
appreciated.
Thanks!
-Tom.
