where to get virus signature data?

I am seeking looking for virus signature data that is in
a publicly-readable format. Does anyone know of any such
source, e.g. something from a university?

Before you try to be condescending, you might try to establish why

i did... in the group specified above...

had you done the sensible thing and cross-posted your question instead
of multi-posting it, people (yourself included) would be able to check
out the conversation easily in both groups...
