Could you buy 3250e from retailers in US? Not in Hong Kong... :(

There is one inside this computer. Buy the computer for $649.00 USD and
rip the processor from it :-) There is an Averatec computer with that
processor as well. So AMD is selling the processor to OEMs and major
manufacturers.

That processor is part of AMD's "invisible processor" family. The lower
the power level of the processor, the more likely you cannot buy it
at retail.

Quantity is probably part of it. They probably don't make as many of
the low power ones, as the others. If they're selected purely by
binning, and not forced that way, by process, there may not be
that many of them. If one OEM computer maker offers to buy 100,000,
they may just dedicate all production to fill that one order (delivered
as they trickle out), and nothing for retail.

I've seen people searching for those low power processors before,
without much success.

I'd probably start the search here. If you can't find it here,
then good luck seeing it at retail.

Sometimes, I have to rely on cpu-world, to prove that the low
power ones really existed. There might not be much evidence otherwise.

Probably to protect the notebook/netbook/culv OEM market .... not so
sure...

Legally speaking, I am not supposed to be able to buy 3250e from Hong
Kong, am I? Besides, I don't want to deal with mainland shops. :)

There's another explanation: AMD make more money out of the faster
processors so would prefer to sell those.

They almost certainly are, I think these will be wafers that have failed
testing at higher speeds and have been binned into lower categories then
offered in bulk cheaply to PC makers rather than try and sell them
retail (where they won't sell well) or dump them.
 
I bought one of these last week to run in a unRAID server. Works fantastically well. Very low power consumption, yet gets the job done.

Replaced a 3500+ Sempron, half the power usage (22W TDP), twice the cores.

Apparently they overclock really well.

£30 shipped.

Considering a 2650e (single core and 15w TDP).

Upped mine from 1.5GHz to 2.25GHz. Northbridge OCed from 500 to 800MHz. 3DMark06 registers a 1553 3DMarks, with CPU Score at 1658. To top it all this CPU comes bundled with new J&W ITX boards that a guy was selling.

And yeah, it runs Crysis well enough on nothing but onboard HD3200. I could add a low profile card such as an HD4350, but why bother?
