I have three computers running Windows 2000 networked
together at home with a 4 port dlink switch/router. One of
them according to the packet sniffer is sending thousands
of ICMP packets an hour to IP addresses starting at
192.165.xx.00 and counting up to ???? then it starts on
random ips in the internet range
I wuld like to turn it off. What is generating it. I
turned off csrss.exe in processes but it still keeps going.

Sounds like you computer might be infected with one of the
Blaster/Nachi/Welchia worms. Head off to Symantec's page
(http://www.sarc.com) to pickup the cleaning tools and then head off to
Microsoft to pickup the 823980 patch.
