Thank you my frtiend. The chinese one won;'t connect and yours isn't
running (as you kindly point out.)

I would also point out that even your search only coughed up ONE very
doubtful server. So come on guys and dolls - are you surprised if it
is failing. Either get more servers or start a new group under a
different name

This one is working, but no posting:
http://reader.maxbaud.net/reader.html?serverid=1291&groupid=33545
I can only access it through his newsreader.
I'll keep looking.

News.freenet.de ---480 authorization required.

Nice try but still not working - any other contenders?????

There is a whole, busy group dedicated to the subject of free news servers.

alt.free.newsservers

While it is not something I've ever followed closely, I still feel confident
to say that my general impression works as guidelines for one's expectations:

Q1. Is there a free news server, for text groups, where I get r/w
permissions?
A1. Yes. Here is a list [....]

Q2. Is there a free news server, for binaries, where I get +r permissions?
A2. Sometimes. Let's look at today's weather report...

Q3. Is there a free news server, for binaries, where I get a r/w permissions?
A3. No. Not unless some admin accidently left a backdoor open, and we have a
few days until they fix it....

For active weather reports, and current day's possibilities for binaries, I'd
check alt.free.newsservers. Yet if it were the case that you'd be interested
in a reliable situation for posting of binaries, it seems to me you'd want
to give real consideration to a pay service (third-party, or as included with
your ISP's package).

Let me repeat that these are my general impressions for how things work, and
that I am not one that follows the subject with great attention. My point is
that it should be helpful to you to understand what kinds of expectations
best groove with the patterns in server permissions.

Thankd for the hint - I was unaware of this group which is probably
more appropriate. I comment on the ISP bit - My ISP carries it and
does a lousy job - no part is complete; no part is carried for more
than a day. Needless to say my ISP is BTInternet.

Thanks for the repy anyway!
