Dear all,

I am edit a word file, but the file is lost. I know that
Word has write a temp file for the Word file
that is edited. I want to know which directory the temp file is
located. Please suggest.

Thanks.

Some files are in the same directory as the original document, the rest in the Temporary directory.

~mfxxxx.tmp MS-DOS-based scratch file 0 bytes
~dftxxxx.tmp Compound file - transacted 0 bytes
~wrf0001.tmp Compound file - direct (unnamed non-Word/OLE files) 1536 bytes
File name Word's recovery files
~wraxxxx.tmp Temporary file for AutoSave/AutoRecovery
<docname>.asd AutoSave (Word 6.0/95)
AutoRecovery save of <docname>.asd AutoRecovery (Word 97)
File name Other Word temporary files
~wrcxxxx.tmp Copy of another document
~wrdxxxx.tmp Word document
~wrfxxxx.tmp Temp document file
~wrixxxx.tmp Dictionary
~wrlxxxx.tmp Clipboard
~wrmxxxx.tmp Macro
~wroxxxx.tmp Word OLE document
~wrsxxxx.tmp Scratch file

What version of Word? The answer may well vary accordingly. To
determine where *your* Word installation is configured to store
Autosaved files, open Word and click Tools > Option > File Locations.
If the file isn't their, check in your designated %Temp% folders.
