where is the offline files folder on my laptop?

Hi there - I'm trying to become more disciplined about backing up files on my
laptop computer....I work from a folder that resides on a server that is
backed-up nightly by my company...since I travel, I've identified the folders
I want to keep on my hard drive (at least that is where I think they are!) so
that I can work offline/update them as a I travel - upon returning to the
office, they can be synchronised/kept up to date.

I've identified the folders and 'synchronized them' - I have a shortcut to
the offline files folder but I'm curious as to its location on my
laptop...where is the offline folder folder located on my computer directory?

Many thanks for your help. Dave Morris

Wes - thanks for this - interestingly - the folder appears (labeled offline
files) as a sub-branch of the desktop (?) when I go via this route. However,
if I right click on the my computer icon and hit explore, I do not see the
offline files folder.....very curious.....I'm assuming that this folder is
'hidden' somehow?

Still a bit puzzled....

Dave

Dave,

So am I.

I don't have Offline Files enabled, so I can't check this.

I thought maybe C:\WINDOWS\CSC, but I don't think so now.

In short, I don't have a clue. Apparently the location is secret.

Your shortcut must point to...

Open My Computer
Right click Hard drive
Properties
Tools tab
Click Folder Options
On the Offline Files tab, click View

This is way more complicated than I thought. For some reason you can't view
them in Windows Explorer.

Maybe someone who actually knows the answer will post.

Sorry. ;-(

Wes - no worries - it's curious as to why an offline files folder should be
so difficult to locate in the compouter director....anyways - thanks for your
detective work.

Cheers,

Dave

Dave,

Everybody in this room have motive for killing Mr. Taylor... :-)

Did a little more detecting.

I was partly right. %SystemRoot%\CSC. %SystemRoot% = C:\WINDOWS, if
Windows is on the C drive. There should be subfolders (D1 thru D8) under
CSC. They are in binary form. That's why you can't view them in Windows
Explorer. You need the cache viewer, whatever that is, to view them.

[[The Offline Files (Client Side Cache, or CSC) folder/database comprises
multiple folders and is located in the %SystemRoot%\CSC folder by default.
The CSC folder is hidden by default and should not be modified in any way.]]
[[The cached files are placed into these folders in binary form.
The cache viewer reads the data from the folder structure and displays it in
a readable format.]]
