How do I get the Icon Back down by the Clock.
It is the only way I can tell if my Users are running Defender without going
into start/programs.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get the Tray ICON Back ????
We really liked Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta 1's Orange Hockey Puck
thx,

Sorry the Windows Defender does not provide that feature.
Welcome to the world of Beta Software.
However, if they get enough complaints, maybe that will be feature of the final version.

I am running version :
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1372.0
Definition Version: 1.14.1436.4
(Help->about windows defender)

And in the options menu
(Tool->options->Realtime protections) i can mark
-choose when the windows defender icon appears in the notification area.

As the previous poster noted, the systray icon option has now been
added to Windows Defender.

I just installed the new version on a test machine, XP Pro, but still can't get an icon in the
system tray.
Went to Option and "monitor in background" is checked.

I just installed windows defender from MS and I do not have any options to choose when the windows
defender icon appears in the notification area.

Look if you have the same version number as i have.
And dont forget to update first.

Tools, options, scroll down to "real-time protection options."

What is at the very bottom of that section, just above "Advanced options"?

What is the build number--help, about, Windows Defender version?

I finally found the scroll bar and the option. (scroll bars are faded on my old test machine
monitor.)

Thankyou for pointing that out :)

(must i answer in the top?)

Tools, Options, scroll down to Real-time protection options--at the very
bottom of that section are radio buttons to control the icon display.

Remember to click on save at the bottom to save the changes.

(and, if you try these instructions and find those buttons don't exist, you
are on an older build--re-download from www.microsoft.com, and they'll be
there.)

No--we have no prejudices about top and bottom posting, but tend to top or
intersperse, ourselves!

Many people miss those scroll bars. I think the paradigm is just new--we
don't expect to find scroll bars within such a dialog.
