Where is the firmware version of Maxtor ? anyone?

trying to change the controller board of a dead Maxtor
D740X-6L--ata133, 40G, 7200rpm.

Got another working drive but the board will not revive the dead
drive. I suspect the firmware version is wrong. Which is the firmware
identifier on the label?

I believe all the pertinent information is listed on the HD label.
There might also be some markings on the chip containing the firmware.

There are about eight groups of numbers apart from the model number.
one of the digits of these ...........

Thanks. I just have to guess it might be the "01-B" on the second
line?????

I've no idea... I had more of those but think they're all
gone (even the ones pictured) now... never had to match up
firmware. You might email Maxtor and ask them.
