where is the backslash on my keyboard

I have just switched to Windows xp. I am using a Toshiba
laptop. I can't find the backslash on my keyboard. On the
keyboard, the backslash is on the key which is above
the "Enter" key. However, if I press that key, I get
instead of hte backslash the "hash" sign. Does anybody
know how to get the backslash?
 
I work for a university in the UK. WinXP was supplied by
the IT support team in my university.

What language version was your previous Windows version (e.g., English -
UK)? Did you purchase the laptop? Where?

Did the team supply you with an English (UK) version of WinXP?

Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages>Details>Default input
language> What is chosen here?

Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages>Details>Installed
services> What is chosen here? What choices are listed?

You have a UK Keyboard layout file in use on a US keyboard
On a standard UK keyboard the \ is left of Z but this may not apply on a
laptop: On my Toshiba Portege laptop with UK Keyboard it is the key
immediately right of the spacebar

You can try changing layout on the machine at Control Panel - Regional
and Language Options; Languages page, click Details. Look under the
Language for the keyboard layout, highlight and click Add. Just under
the language is a check box, check it and select US layout. I can't
guarantee it will match up, but Hopefully Toshiba have supplied one that
does.
 
Thank you. You were right. Although my Toshiba laptop was
bought in the UK, I had the keyboard replaced while
visiting the US. Once I switched to the US keyboard
layout, things worked ok.
