In Windows98, when I right click "start", I get a folder that has the
items that are shown if I left click "start". I can then add folders,
change names, combine folders, etc.

When I right click "start" in WindowsXP home, I get a folder that in no
way looks like what I get if I left click "start" and select "All
Programs". Can someone tell me what is going on? How can I customize what
I see when I left click "start". How can I customize what I see when I
left click "start" and then left click "All Programs"?

Thanks and regards, hawk

This is a know downfall of Windows XP. you need to right click and copy all
of your programs in your start menu into the folder that should have them in
there already

Maybe it's part of the application's installation.
Whether it's installed for All Users or just for the User that installed it
would put it's Start Menu items in different folders.

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

and

\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Start Menu\Programs

should contain all items between them.

Hi,

Right click the Start button/Explore All Users/Start Menu/Programs. Arrange
accordingly in the right pane.

OK guys, thanks for the info. I understand it now. The "All Programs" list
is the combined list from "all users" and "<user name>" lists.

Why did MS make this so complicated? I am the only user on this computer,
so why do I have to put up with this aggravation?
