Hello
I have bought a pc with a maxtor SATA disk.
It is Win XP Home edition as OS, and the pc boot properly
I want to install a new OS

When i try to install the new operating system (XP Pro) i get the message
that there are no disk available.
When i connect a hardrive to one of the IDE channels it works, but why aint
XP capable of finding the SATA-disk ???

PS
The disk is a Maxtor DiamondMax 10
The Motherboard is MSI K8M Neo-V

You have to press F6 and install the drivers from a floppy disk for SATA as
XP does not contain any SATA in all but SP2 version and then only a few. The
drivers will be on the disk which came with the motherboard.

Hi, You will have to make a floppy disk with your SATA drivers on it first.
There is usually a utility on your motherboard cd for this.

Boot from the xp cd and make sure you press F6 when it asks if you need to
install scsi or other divers.

At some stage in the process it will ask you for the disk and install the
SATA drivers from the floppy.

It should then see your hard drive.

Hope this helps.

While I agree that this is the correct thing for the OP to do I disagree
with your statement about prior versions of XP nothaving SATA drivers. I
have a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP (version 1) motherboard and only have three SATA
disks. M XP installation (off the SP1 CD) recognised them and installed OK.
So I say it does have some but not his.
