I have just installed a new 120 gig hard drive. Now the
bios detects it and the device manager detects it but
nothing else will not my computer or add hardware wizard.
What do I need to do with xp to get it to work?....HELP
please

It needs to be partitioned and formatted.

Seeing as how the manufacturer has NO idea as to how you want to use their
hard drive, or how YOU want to set it up, they do NOTHING to it!

It is up to you, the end user, to partition, format and add files - as you
see fit!

Also make sure there is an open drive letter available

Did you initialize the disk in SETUP, prior to booting to
Windows? Although Windows can sense to presence of a
device, if it is not properly initialized, Windows is
unable to access/use it.

Run "compmgmt.msc", go to Disk Management and format/partition it there.
Assign it a drive letter and "walla" you're set to go.

Be careful not to do anything to the C: partition while you're in there.

If you are using this as a secondary hd-you need to partition/format as
needed. To do that in XP control panel/adminstrative tools/computer
management/disk management and you can partition/format in XP.
