Chris, I tried that link, it gets me to the overview page,
BUT when I click on
"Blaster Worm: Critical Security Patch for Windows 2000"
I get:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The
Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or
you may need to adjust your browser settings.

NOW WHAT??
Even the Windows Update link gives me that OR even when I
type www.microsoft.com into the address line. I am totally
stumped.

Maybe you could get to it from this link.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;
[ln];DOWNLOADOVER&style=home

If you look to the right it has a link to the different
versions of the blaster fix.

Scarlett,

From a DOS (cmd) prompt run tracert www.microsoft.com

If you get

Unable to resolve target system name www.microsoft.com
then you have a DNS issue.

If it does not resolve to
Tracing route to a562.cd.akamai.net [63.209.144.169] you
may have a DNS cache issue. Have you tried this from more
then just your PC?

It is possible that your system has the Blaster Worm and
that is one of the symptoms, in that it does not allow
access to the microsoft update service.

Sounds like a good plan. I am leaving for the weekend,
but if this is not successfull, send me an email and I
will try to walk you through some debug techniques.

YES, I have tried it from my computer and I have no
problem. I supected it is this older puter's prob, but I
do not know enough to be able to do something about it.
Your suggestion in the last reply sounds like greek to me
(sorry, I used to do computer software support, but it
stopped in 1996 and now I feel totally stupid.) Do you
have time to kinda walk me through this step by step?? I
thought to download the security patch and the blaster fix
onto my new computer and save it to disk and then upload
it to the old one from a diskette and install it that way,
will that fix it? ... Scarlett
