sI'm trying to get around Windows File Protection. I want to replace the
original gm.dls sound file with one of my own. I did this, and that let me
use my own sounds for MIDI etc. All of a sudden, Windows invokes its File
Protection and won't let me delete or rename or write to this file.
One source suggested that a way around this is to change the cache file from
which WFP copies when it undoes my deletion or rewriting. But I can't find
it. It's not in the drver cache\I386 directory where I thought it was
supposed to be, and I can't find the dllcache directory which one source
suggested.
So I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone know where this file is cached?
2. If I find it, it will be in a .cab file. How do I shift the original
file out and put my file in?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
p.s. if anyone knows a simple direct way of getting DirectX to play from my
file instead of gm.dls I like to know that too.
