Right now I'm in Dundedin, The Edinburgh of the south. Known for it's University & it's weather (rain, although we vary that sometimes with a spot of overcast... but not too much, we wouldn't want people to get soft after all ;) )

I wandered down here a few decades ago to go to the Uni & had a couple of children with a local then found myself stuck. He might not've been the best partner but he's an excellent father so I'll hang around here until my kids grow up.
Besides, this place kind of grows on you & I love it here now (I hated it for the first couple of years). Wherever I go in the world, I reckon this'll be the place that I come back to.

Dunedin has crap summers & lovely, warm springs & Autumns so in 8 weeks time you might just catch the tail end of the nice weather... or be dumped in the miserable late Autumn/early winter drizzle.

Where abouts in New Zealand will you be headed? It would be cool to meet up with you. I hope the weather's still sunny as I'd love to show you some of the beautiful beaches we have hidden around here. Mind you, I'm trying to paint one at the moment so my infatuation with them is in a temporary slump. But hopefully I'll have either finished the painting, or thrown it away by then. The beach I'm painting has blue/grey sand (not yellow). Anyone know how to paint blue/grey sand so that it doesn't look like water?

And where are you from Bhodi? Man of mystery... I noticed that you didn't answer your own question?

Me from Stoke ..centre of England...last place to survive if ever a flood ravaged our great country..in fact i am that central it would be my raised arm that was last to submerge ...glug glug glug... :D

Are you from Bodmin ,Bodhi ?

Ah ha, i was caught out not answering my own question!!

I was born in Glasgow, lived there for one year and been in Edinburgh for 24 years, and now Sydney for 1 year. My visa runs out in Australia in 7 weeks and im gutted, i really wanna stay longer!! Oh well, back to Scotland i go i guess. :-(

Have you tried applying for residency? I'm not sure how things work in Australia unfortunately as NZ & Australia have different rules for each other than for everyone else. I do know that Australia don't allow dual citizenship. For my Mum to become a Kiwi she would have to give up her Australian citizenship. New Zealand, however does allow dual citizenship, so my sister is both British & a New Zealander & holds two passports.
If it was NZ I would say apply for Residency & get a multiple re-entry permit & you should be fine. John's stayed here over 20 years as a resident & as far as I know the arrangements are much the same for Australia. Over here it would all be pretty much a formality for a Britt. New Zealand still sees itself as very much a part of the commonwealth, but attitudes in Australia have changed a lot over the last 10 years & Australia (The govt/beureaucracy anyway) tends to see itself more as a burgening republic rather than a part of the Brittish conglomerate so I don't know how easy it is for British citizens to get residency over there. Still, if you really want to stay it's worth a try.

You should definitely hop over here for a visit either way though. NZ is very different from Australia... In fact, now that I think about it NZ is very different from itself. When My Mum & Sister came down to visit me at xmas They set out from a sub-tropical rainforest, drove over a rather tall mountain range, through miles & miles of table flat, dry plains & down here to the whole Rolling green hills dotted with sheep type thing they've got going on around here. Head into central & you've got that rugged, rocky, thyme covered hills thing then down to Wanaka & you've got all that stunning lakes & mountain type stuff the tourists love so much. & this is all just the middle slice of the South Island (The West coast, Canterbury & Otago). Personally I think that this is the most beautiful place on earth... not that I'm biased or anything of course ;)
