I am fairly exp with FP2000. I created a web site
(www.mission-associates.com) in 2000. An associate (now departed) "improved"
the site by redoing it in some obscure lang. Now, both versions appear to be
up (with only his visable)

I upgraded to FP2003 and when I download the site, I can only see the old
pages in "Design" His pages appear as HTML and I can find no way to get to
Design. His pages do look better but I can only work in Design.

How do I open his pages in Design?

The obscure language looks like ordinary XHTML to me. I can't see a reason
why it would be a problem in FP2003. But perhaps I don't have a good grasp
of what your problem really is?

It is XHTML but according to him it has been "enhanced" to allow users to do
things like update via a blog (why, I don't know).

The problem is - I upgraded to 2003 via an upgrade CD (ie no manual). Now,
when I download pages I created in 2000 I click on View>Page>Page Sub
Men>Design Everything works and I see it in Design (WYSIWYG) mode.

When I import one of his pages and go through the same process, nothing
happens. The page remains in XHTML.

The pages on the link bar are all .php pages.
In FrontPage, use Tools->Options - Configure Editors tab
and check if php is listed in the Extensions column
If not, add the extension and set to open in FrontPage as HTML.
If the extension is already there, set the default to open in
FrontPage as HTML
If this is already done, then the coding used is such that FrontPage
will not allow it to be opened in Design view because FP "knows" it
will 'correct' the coding and possibly ruin the page in the process.
This can happen if some tags are opened as an HTML tag, and closed in
PHP echo statements, or vice versa.

That did it - Thank You
