Hi All,

If you know a lot about a feature,"Add/Removal Program" on VISTA, please
have a look at my question below and teach me its solution.

Before Vista(XP,2000..etc), there is a function,"Add Program" in the
Add/Remove Program Panel. As you know,by running this, user can install
programs from CD,windows update, and networks. However, I can't find this
feature on Vista Ultimate...Is this as designed? Is it integrated with
another features? Or, A brand new feature is implemented on Vista in place
of "Add remove" ?

Thanks in advance.

It has been renamed.
Start - Control panel - PROGRAMS.

why not just browse to your setup.exe and doubleclick it?

It's now called Programs and Features in Control Panel. You can still remove
programs or add windows com[ponents there, but the Add Program feature has
been removed.

There are some tips for installing programs in Help and Support.

Look at the Control Panel again but NOT in the classic & follow Beck's path.

"Uninstall a Program" is right there.

Hi,

Sorry, I'm not asking how to uninstall programs.
I'm talking about installing programs by using "Add Programs".

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Troy,
why not just browse to your setup.exe and doubleclick it
I know very very very well how to do it !!

If I could solve my problem in the way you suggested, I wouldn't post it to
the newsgroups...
I just asking you about how to deploy a program by using Group
Policy&preparing a package to a client computer especially on large
networks.

Thanks,
Bob

If you need to access applications published via Group Policy, it still works on Vista. I don't have a Vista that is a member of AD domain right now but there should be appropriate item under "Tasks" on the left pane of Programs and Features applet.

BTW it took me some time to find it too when I was trying to find the answer to exactly same question.

From the link I posted in my earlier reply:

"To install a program from a network

If your computer is on a network (such as an internal corporate network)
that offers programs that you can add, you can install programs from Control
Panel.

1. Open Get Programs by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel,
clicking Programs, and then clicking Get Programs.

2. Select a program from the list, and then click Install.

3. Follow the instructions on your screen. If you are prompted for an
administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation."

Also, from the Windows Vista Product guide (available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...bf-4823-4a12-afe1-5b40b2ad3725&DisplayLang=en)
is the following:

"For organizations, the Programs Explorer also displays licensed
applications that are available for installation by users. Because this
information is presented in an Explorer, a user can use Instant Search to
quickly find a specific application among a long list of applications that
might be available in that organization."

I should add that I do not have access to a network that publishes programs
this way so can only refer you to the documentation of how it is supposed to
work.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your nice info.
Just confirmation, please let me ask you about several question?
1. Open Get Programs by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel,
clicking Programs, and then clicking Get Programs.
->Is Your comment above true on Viista Ultimate? I mean, if you click
"Start->control Panel->Programs(you'll see the Add/Remove panel), can you
see the button, "Get Programs"on left panel ? (The steps 1-3 you instructed
in this thread below is true, to be sure, on XP,Win2000...etc)

Thanks,
Bob

OK, I set up Vista Business under a Virtual PC session here. I first
configured Vista Business as stand-alone, not joined to the corporate
domain. In this scenario, there is no option in the Control Panel->Programs
to install programs from the network. There is the option to get prorams
from the Windows Marketplace online and to view purchased software (digital
locker).

I then joined the Vista Business machine to our corporate domain. Once I
did this and went to Control Panel, Programs, Get Programs I then had the
option to in the list of Tasks to "Install a program from the network". See
the following images:

http://support.teloep.org/images/prg1.jpg
http://support.teloep.org/images/prg2.jpg
http://support.teloep.org/images/prg3.jpg

So it appears in Vista Business at least that the feature is still there.
As Vista Ultimate can also be joined to a domain I would assume that it
would behave the same as Business in this area. I will upgrade my Business
install to Ultimate and post the findings back to this thread.

As I stated earlier, we do not push programs this way on our network so the
list for me is empty.

I've replied to Bob earlier with almost same post but it doesn't seem to get
through for some reason. Maybe because of screenshots attached. Anyway, I
can confirm that this feature is available and working on Vista Ultimate in
domain environment.

Bob,

This response is not intended as rude, instead, what slowly I’ve learned the
hard method.

Please respect and read Vista’s Install and Help Files, they not only
provide all answers, the Help Files includes Links guiding a user for desired
help results.

Yes, I’ve used computers for many years, and for the first time Vista forced
me for using the Install and Help Files.

Yes, as you report, it works the same in Vista Ultimate.
