Where is AActivation and WHy won't Services start XP Media Center

1. Activation is not found in Accessories/System Tools - nor any place else.

2. Every time I boot I have to start 90% of my so-called "automatic"
services in order to get my printer going, enable my network and access the
internet. Other things probably are affected, but I haven't had time to
really check everything out. Getting to the internet, getting mail and
printing are essential to my daily business. It is a real pain in the ___
having to spend 10 minutes starting them all every time I have to boot, which
is often as I install software in the damned registry environment.
a. DCOM won't start at all - I get a timed out mesage.
b. MEDIA CENTER EXTENDER SERVICE won't start because the
depencdency is not started. The dependency is RPC call. It IS
started
c, MSCONFIG shows all services checked to start.

When I decided to leave "old Faithful" 2000 Pro, I though I was going to
find an even smoother way to go. Instead I'm just about convinced to go OS X

You probably have a BIOS Locked OEM version of Windows XP installed.
BIOS Locked OEM versions are self-activating when they are installed
on a computer with a motherboard BIOS from that specific
manufacturer/assembler.

Volume license versions also do not require activation.

Open Control Panel - System - General and look at the 20 character
product i.d. value shown as the last item in the "Licensed to"
section. If the second segment of that number reads OEM then you have
an OEM version of Windows XP

Use Start - Run - SERVICES.MSC and checkout the startup settings for
each of these services that are causing a problem.

The problem is that all of the correct Services show "automatic" but they
don't start on boot. I have to go in and start each bloody service. What in
the hell could be causing this to happen?

As to authentication I do have an OEM version purchased from Newegg.com with
all proper conditions met. I keep getting the activation day countdown
warning ballon. I have heard that before that auth not required. But, my son
got the same product, same source about 60 days ago. And he had to activate.
I can't activate as that is another problem. I do not have IE. When I try
to install IE6 it tells me that I have a later version - but I don't have
ANY. I am using Foxfire to communicate here. Foxfire is great . But MS
doesn't allow certain activities (activation for one) on anything but IE. I
have a real catch-22 and no one seems to have any light to shed upon the
subject.
