Where does Microsoft/Windows Update temporarily store files?

On my W2K-Pro computer while logged in as 'Administrator', I tried to
make Microsoft Update work. While it apparently downloaded a bunch of
update files, for unknown reasons it refuses to install them.

Where, and under what name, has Microsoft Update temporarily stored
these uninstalled files? They are taking up HD space I want to reclaim.

Interestingly, I separately downloaded one of the updates by name and it
installed properly. Before figuring out why, I want to clear out all of
these downloaded but uninstalled files.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You can find them in C:\Windows

greetz,
OK, that is where I would expect them to be. But, in what folder?
There is a lot of real estate in c:\Windows!

They appear blue and look this c:\windows\$NtUninstallKB901214$
Of course they can be relocated, I sugest a search commando, they start with
a $. They are hidden as well. Open your explorer and go to Tools>Folder
Options>Show all file and folders.

Should do the trick,

Greetings,

Thos are not the downloaded install files. They are, as the name
suggests, the files needed to uninstall a patch that has been successfully
installed. Also, Win 2K does not usually have a C:\Windows folder. The
folder is usually named \WINNT.
