I had a WIN98 box blow up on me. Had Two physical hard drives with business records on them.
Asked computer store to sell me a cheap box with my existing harddrives installed and I would
reinstall software. One program I use is Peachtree Accounting and the gurus strongly recommend
WINXP Pro so thats what I did.

Here's the problem. the computer can be sitting with two or three programs loaded, but not
working, and just shut down and restart. This happens frequently.

What can I tell you so you can help me, I Hope. Is there a log file that would store the events
and not get over-writted on the automatic reboot.

There is nothing I'm trying to run that I wasn't running 24-7 on the 4-5 year old machine.

TIA

George

Note time of crash and look in the Application (or system) Event logs using
Event Viewer. There is info on Event Viewer in help and support. You may
need to be logged in as admin user to use it. look for error messages around
the time of the crash. Double click on as error to see more info about it.
There is also a button to copy the info to the clip board (eg so you can
post the error here)

Is the version of "Peachtree Accounting" you have intended for WinXP or do
they have a new version?

Thanks for the point to Event Viewer. The Shutdown error has consistantly been source = HPOPAR05
this is the message:

Only one google hit on "HPOPAR05" but that suggests its... .

\SystemRoot\System32\drivers\HPOPAR05.SYS

Perhaps this is a device driver from HP? Do you have anything from HP like a
scanner, camera etc

If so try try visiting their web site and checking to see if they have WinXP
compatable drivers for that device.
