Where do I find extra keyboard characters?

I use the copyright and degrees characters alot. Is this possible using XP
and Word?

If so, how?

Den,

I figured out the copyright command ok, but it works in Word, but it doesn't
work in this reply.

However, I cannot figure out how to use the shortcut key for 'degree'. It
says the shortcut key for 'degree' is Ctrl+@,Space. I've tried that but the
degree symbol is not generated.

This was all so much easier on my Mac.

Any further suggestions?

I think MS should come up with a more effecient way. There's an awful lot
of numbers that a person has to memorize to create a document that uses alot
of symbols.

I have figured out how to assign new keyboard shortcuts to the symbols I use
most, so that is helpful. I can assign them the say way I learned them on
my old Mac. However, they can't be used in this news reply. But they work
in Word and in Outlook.

By the way, it's currently 70° in Cincinnati with zero humidity I did it
your way°

David, you may want to take a look at Character Map. The program uses a
very small window and shows the symbols available with any of your
installed fonts. It will display the keyboard combinations needed to enter
the symbol manually. It can also copy a selected symbol to the clipboard
and you can then paste it into your document.

Start> (All) Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Character Map.

The Character Map is a cumbersome solution to a simple need---one copyright
symbol. I'm sure alot of users out there use this symbol on a daily basis.
I know that myself and the rest of my artist friends use it all the time.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful...I'm just surprised that MS can't find a
more practical solution.

I'm very happy with my new PC, but I have to admit that Mac wins this round.

Yup, over a C symbol...but it's ALL the symbols that are possible and many
of them are commonly used.

I have downloaded your suggestion. I will be away for a week on business.
When I return, I'll give it a second look.

Sorry for coming in late.
You mentioned Word {but not version}. If you are using Word 2002, have you
checked Insert, Symbol and using autocorrect?
If you are not using Word 2002, check Help for help on symbols.

That's because each font has its own character map. Many characters, like
upper and lower case letters, share the same position within each font.
Other characters, like the copyright symbol may be in different places or
may not even exist within a font. Using the Character Map program
(Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools) may help with inserting the
characters you want.
