I amtrying to rip my music collection using an XP Pro laptop to a network
drive on my home network with url \\MEDIA\Music. When my ripping software
asked where to put my FLAC encoded files, I went to network neighborhood and
clicked on MEDIA and then the Music folder.

After ripping a dozen disks, I thought that i would test playing back the
FLAC versions to make sure they ripped correctly. I could play back and hear
the files but i noted that there was no network activity during playback.

When i browse the network share \\MEDIA\Music the FLACs are not there. When
i browse C:\Documents and Settings\user\NetHood\MEDIA\Music on the laptop
they are not there either! Yet my media player claims it is playing back a
FLAC file and i am hearing it.

My question is "Where are my FLACs stored on the local laptop drive?"

Thanks st,

Yes, also unchecked hide protected OS files. Also searched for large files,
all files in the last three days, also files ending in *.flac on the laptop.
No results. Repeated on the network share. No results.

There aren't any CDs in the laptop drive. The player claims it is sourcing
C:\Documents and Settings\user\NetHood\MEDIA\Music\Artist\song.flac during
playback. The bitrate and sound quality indicates that it is indeed playing
back a flac file.

When I say there is no network traffic while playing back these mysterious
flac files, I mean I am watching the network tab in task manager and the
strip chart is at 0% utilization with an occasional blip.

What is the "network drive" and how is it connected? NAS? A shared
drive on another computer (what OS)? Connected to a port on your router
(make/model)?
