Our computer hot a bug off the net and was really slow.my
parents got a computr guy out and he did his thing and fix
and cleaned it out, but now we don't have microsoft works
any more. All we're left with is wordpad and notepad. when
we bought the computer we had it. do we have to buy a new
one or would it be on one of the installation disks? we
have the xp home

ok now what you are trying to say is probably that you dont have stuff included in MS Office... well that can be installed from the Microsoft Office CD... see if you have it. Microsoft Office has Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Access...

He said Works - that is not on the MS Office CD - it is either a MS
Works or MS Works Suite CD

Hi Keena,

I take it that "Works" was installed when you bought the computer. If that
is the case, it should be on the installation disks that were provided with
the computer, if it was specified as part of the sale of the computer. Look
for disks that are labeled "Works". If you need to, contact the people the
computer was bought from for instructions on re-installing.

Sounds to me like Windows was reinstalled without Works also being
reinstalled. How was it reinstalled - with a Windows disk, a recovery
disk? If your computer came with Works preinstalled and a restore
disk was used, then Works should be installed also. If your system
came with a full Windows disk then you should also have a Works disk
(assuming that Works was preinstalled).

It also sounds like the "computer guy" was not well
qualified if he did not properly repair the problem and
reinstall all the software and give you some instruction of
how to keep the computer working properly.

Good help is so hard to find.

Hi, Keena.

If you tell us the make and model of your computer, someone here may
recognize it and give you some specific advice. You can see your computer;
we can't. Heck, we can't even see all those CDs and manuals that came with
your computer. :>(

Not meaning to defend the "technician", but the PC may have came with a
partition to restore the OS and Works came on the CD's the OP mentioned.
(That was the case with an IBM a friend bought.) The tech may not have been
aware of the CD's or, not asked to install them.
