Where did download go?

I have downloaded the RC1 file twice on this Vista Beta 2 computer. The
download manager seemed to work normally and checked the integrity after the
download and stated it was finished. But I cannot seem to find either of
the downloaded files, which I put in different areas. The second download
asked if I wanted to overwrite the first, so I changed the download location
so it would not.

Since the search utility is so messed up in Vista, I don't trust it, but
even looking in the folder designated as the download folder, I cannot find
the file. It doesn't seem to be that easy to loose a 2.5 G file, but I
guess I have.

Any ideas about where it might be?

Thanks,
Clark

Have you tried doing a full system search for *.iso

disable hidden files/folders in Controlpanel -> folder options.

locate windows Explorer on the menu and start it as Administrator via
rightclick "run as Administrator"

navigate in this Admin-Explorer now to your user-folder and have a look at
Users\YOUR_NAME\Local Settings\Temp .

Search all those subfolders, including the ones which names doesn't seem
useful to you at all.

Have a look for your downloaded iso there deep in the subfolders of the
Users\YOUR_NAME\Local Settings\Temp folder - if it isn't where you wanted it
to be and haven't it deleted by accident than it is there.

This seems to be a side-effect for iexplore.exe now running in a own
protected environment via UAC to hide potential "harmful" stuff and not let
it be moved into other folders of the system ( as far as I ca explain and
think of how this works ).

Lots of people have trouble with finding their Downloads in Vista. You are
not the first to post this here.

That is definately something MSFT needs to work out before RTM, as this will
confuse everybody sooner or later.

I will try doing as you suggest, but it seems the files just disappeared. I
used the same procedure to download the RC1 file on an XP machine and it
worked fine.

Since I am now using the RC1, I did a search for the same files I could not
find on the Beta 2 machine and the Search function found them. Maybe
something got fixed!
