Hi folks!

The motherboard inside my computer died on me yesterday. I can't afford to
build myself another system. So, I am looking for the same motherboard to
replace it. The motherboard is ASUS P3B-F. It is about 4 years old. I went to
ASUS website, but couldn't find it there. Is there any motherboard wholesale or
depot on the internet that might have this old motherboard in their stock?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't necessarily have to be the same exact board. Just look for one
that will support your type of CPU, memory and your type of add on cards
(ISA, PCI, AGP) and go from there..

If what you gots is an Athlon or Duron processor, get an el-cheapo
ASROCK K7VT2 mobo or and ECS K7S5A. I'd recommend the ASROCK which is
the budget Asus version.

Should do nicely i would think. Both boards take either DDR or SDRAM.
And support Athlon & Duron Chips.

Please TRY and know what you're talking about before you post...

For the OP: try ebay

the suggestion to try ebay was a good one

however if you end up not being able to get the identical board
if you can find a similar board with the same chipset your transition should
be fairly smooth

in the very worst case you can do a repair installation (or install-over)
and keep your system pretty much intact
(though you;d have to reapply your updates)

The P3B-F was and still is a great motherboard. I don't blame you for
wanting to replace it with the exact same model. The other plus is that
you'll be able to boot right up without the usual conversion hassles from
one mobo to another (even to other models with the same chipset). I just did
a search on ebay and am happy to see that you can even obtain a new one!

After experiencing and getting used to solid ASUS motherboard stability and
performance, it is hard to settle for less. I built my computer 4 years ago or
so, and used Pentium III 500Mhz CPU with 384MB of memory. Compared to other
computers with 2 or 3 times faster CPU speed such as 1.5Ghz, my system with
only Pentium III 500Mhz performs at the same speed.

At this time, I can't afford, but if I could, I would like to build myself a
new system using
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe (The motherboard has built-in sound and ethernet card)
Pentium4 3Ghz with 800Mhz system bus (cpu)
IBM Deskstar 180GXP with 120GB (hard drive)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with 256MB (video card)
1024MB of memory
HP DVD Burner
I just did a search on ebay and am happy to see that you can even obtain a new
one!

I just did a search on ebay as well, and already started a bid on P3B-F.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds sweet. After I retired my trusty P3B-F about a year-and-a-half ago, I
bought an Asus (of course!) P4B266 with Intel's i845D chipset (the first
Intel chipset to support DDR. The motherboard has "only" a 400 MHz FSB (not
533 or 800), but I've got 512MB of Mushkin "black" memory with all memory
settings cranked to the max, and a 2.4-GHz P4. Like you, I prefer ATI over
Nvidia, and I have a 9600 Pro.

I'm going to keep my present system until it croaks... and I'm going to take
very good care of it so that it doesn't croak for a long time. I'm not a
heavy duty 3D gamer but, when I do play (usually with my son), I run at
1280x1024x32 with all/most of the eye candy turned on. I can't imagine
needing more power than I've got now! I can only imagine what a 3.0+ GHz P4
w/ an 800-MHz FSB and a gig or two of 400-MHz dial channel DDR must be
like... but it's way more than I need now! ;-)

You're quite welcome. Good luck.

Please TRY and point out what part of what I have said is incorrect?

Actually look up the motherboard in question before crapping on about
things completely unrelated, moron.

Well, OK... you did say *if* the OP had an Athlon/Duron *then* ...

But the ASUS P3B-F is a PII/PIII/Celeron motherboard.

The boards you mentioned are for an Athlon/Duron :)

Anyhow: for the OP - you could also have a search for the Abit BX, or
Abit BE6 motherboards.

Asus P4C800-E (as well as other P4C800 series) has the new Intel 875P chipset
with PAT (Performance Acceleration Technology). This motherboard is the best
one out there. When it comes to gaming experience, this is a must-have
motherboard. I am not much of an overclocker 'cause I like to go easy on the
motherboard but this motherboard like any other Asus boards doesn't compromise
any stability even when overclocked.

The motherboard has "only" a 400 MHz FSB (not >533 or 800),
but I've got 512MB of Mushkin "black" memory with all memory
settings cranked to the max, and a 2.4-GHz P4. Like you, I prefer ATI over
Nvidia, and I have a 9600 Pro.

For now, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is the best. That's the kind of card that will not
let serious gamers down.

very good care of it so that it doesn't croak for a long time. I'm not a

I like to build a game demon. ;-) I mean, sooner or later, I have to get ready
for "DOOM 3" and "Half Life 2". Those games are gonna rock when they get
released.

I use Windows XP Pro as my operating system. As you might know, XBOX has basic
Windows operating system kernels that are only needed for games. Not exactly
but in a way, you can turn Windows XP into a dedicated game console by turning
off all the services running in the background that you don't really need.

As you turn on XP, it automatically boots up about 65 to 80 services. I have
only 16 services running.

And exactly which set of benchmarks told you this?

For something that obvious, you don't need a benchmark. For subtle differences
that humans can't differentiate with their senses, benchmark is needed.

Only in numbers, 1.5Ghz is 3 times greater than 500Mhz, but when it comes to
speed and performance, 1.5Ghz is not indeed 3 times faster than 500Mhz. Right
off the bat, motherboard has a lot to do with performance and speed
improvement.

Maybe you should try telling that to guy that edits video or large graphic
files or a guy
who makes a living rendering drawings in AutoCAD all day.
Opps that's right you just did and it still don't fly.

The problem is easily solved with a good video card which is what I have in my
computer.
