Hi,

I've checked out the Adobe site and several others but can't make much
of them. Basically I want to buy Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat Writer,
download and start scanning tomorrow.

Looking for something UK oriented. It's a while since I used Photoshop
and am not sure if it includes Acrobat Writer.

Thanks

Well Adobe have an online UK store but there is a lot of flash in the
website design.

The Acrobat product is just Acrobat, not Acrobat writer (it's the [free]
"Acrobat Reader" that can't write PDF files).

Photoshop itself does not include Acrobat, but "Creative Suite" (of
which there are several editions) includes both Photoshop and Acrobat in
some of the editions.

Don't know where to help you find them online in the UK, and I'm not
sure that you will be able to buy them online if by online you mean as a
download (of course you can order them online for physical delivery).

I presume you know that these are very expensive products. Sometimes
you can save money by buying an older version on E-Bay and then buying
the "upgrade" version of the latest release.

Several years ago, Adobe sold a version of Acrobat Writer on-line, but
as far as i know, they haven't offered that since. I did buy it back
then, I believe the price was $20. It was a very limited product....
enabling you to install a PDF writer for only some programs. Acrobat
is much more versatile, but as Barry said, much more expensive also.

As far as I know, if you're still a registered Adobe product owner,
you can still buy products at their on-line store.... but I think they
then mail you the package. I don't know of them selling anything via
download any more.

If one desires only to write PDF files via the print dialog, PrimoPDF
does a nice job, is free, and available from the Internet. Maybe
this is the reason Adobe doesn't sell the Acrobat Writer anymore?

Probably....

But one minor point. It was PDF Writer, not Acrobat Writer. AFAIK, the
writer associated with Acrobat is a different thing. The writer I was
referring to was called PDF Writer.... I don't think it had the name
Acrobat associated with it.

But you are correct, now that there are several cheap and even free
PDF generators, there certainly isn't a market for a $20 Adobe product
to generate PDFs.

I'm actually a heavy user and strong proponent of full-version Acrobat,
I think it's a great product, but I do think it's WAY over-priced, I
think it should be $99 for the "standard" version, not something like
$250 to $300. I think Adobe marketing is mis-reading the market on that
one.
