Please educate me: I use Windows XP SP2.

When I open Windows Explorer, (after minimizing Drive "C")
all drives, the control panel, and two "Document" folders are under
"My Computer".
Then under "Desktop" there are also "My Documents", "My Network Places" and
"Recycle Bin".

If these items are not under any one of the drives, where re they actually
located?

If you want to see what I mean, look at http://www.nusselder.ca/WinExpl.jpg
I thought that everything (other than the BIOS) was stored on one of the drives.

Thanks!

John's Documents is just a mirror of your My Documents folder in:

C:\Documents and Settings\John\My Documents

This is normal. Shared Documents is a mirror of:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\My Documents

It is as you say. However, why did Microsoft do it that way? What is the
logic?

There is no real logic. The reason might have been to
make the use of computers easier. The oft-used phrase
is known as "dumbing down".
