disallow the spyware gator from being downloaded automatically onto my
computer? It isn't a popup. Thanks for any help with this.

Try the following and see if it helps:

In IE...Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set slider to Medium or High. This
will block the cookies that often allow such pograms to continue to be
activated.

Also....clear your Temporary Files Cache:
Clear out temporary files and delete cookies.

Then remove all traces of the Gator from your system. Here are a couple of
removal tools, if you don't have them already.

SpyBot Search & Destroy

You should also have a firewall if you don't already have one. Zone Alarm
Free is a very good one.
